      School Profile
    The School of Electro-Mechanical Engineering consists of six departments and a research center, namely Department of Electro-mechanical Engineering, Department of Industrial Design, Department of Automatic Control, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Measurement and Control Engineering, and Department of Electronic Packaging , and hosts Mechanical and Electronic Science and Technology Institute. It hosts a Key Laboratory of Electronic Equipment Structure Design of Ministry of Education, P.R.C. The school has 200 staff members,
including 2 academicians, 3 dually appointed academicians, 1 Changjiang Scholar, 2 Distinguished Professors of "Foreign Experts thousands of people plan", 5 owner of The New Century Outstanding Talent of Ministry of Education, P.R.C., 34 full Professors, and 94 Associate Professors and Senior Engineers. It enrolls about 2,800 undergraduate, over 900 Masters, and about 170 doctoral candidates.
    The school covers 5 disciplines, namely, Mechanical Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, Control Theory and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanics. It offers 6 undergraduate programs, 11 Masters programs, and 6 doctoral programs. Advanced Electro-Mechanical Engineering, led by Professor Duan Baoyan, is one of the six discipline groups chiefly supported by Project 211 at Xidian University.
     In the past five years, the school has undertaken many advanced research projects, including international cooperation projects, "973" Programs, "863" High-Tech Programs, key and regular projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Technology R & D Programs, and National Defense Research Projects and has enjoyed an average annual increase of over 30% in scientific research funds. The school has won two Second-class National Science and Technology Progress Award, Over 10 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards. In addition, the school has been awarded over 30 patents, and over 20 copyrights of computer software. More than 700 scientific research papers have been published and indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. Over 10 monographs and textbooks have been also published. One doctoral dissertation ranked among and two have been nominated for the National 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations.
    For the forthcoming five years, the school will have been granted a number of key scientific research projects with a total contract amount over 90 million. These projects will make great progress in many research areas.
    The school pays great attention to broad and deep academic exchanges and close cooperation with many famous universities and research institutes at home and abroad. Each year, the school invites a large number of academicians, experts and scholars to deliver lectures in their research areas. In the recent years, the school has sent junior faculty numbers abroad for advanced joint studies. Over fourty of them have already came back after the completion of their studies.
    In conformity to the talent training concept of fostering inter-disciplinary and overall-developed talents with a solid theoretical foundation and hands-on abilities, the school stresses on the development of students innovative, research ability and engineering skills. The course of "Signal and Systems" was recognized as National Best-quality Course, and "Fundamentals of Circuit Analysis", "Automatic Measurement Technology" and "Auto CAD" were listed as Provincial Best-quality Courses. "Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation", and "Measurement & Control Technology" ranked among the Best-quality Specialties of Shaanxi Province. In the recent years, the school has obtained three First Prizes of Excellent Provincial Teaching Achievement, and two Second Prizes. The employment rate of undergraduates and postgraduates has been kept above 97% and 100%, respectively for many years.
    Following the trend of information Technology driving industrialization and the guiding principles of Quality Project of Ministry of Education, P.R.C,. the school sets its basic objectives as laying a solid foundation, increasing the number of specialties, improve the quality-oriented education, enhancing engineering skill development, and stressing specialty characteristics in order to make breakthrough in fields of the existing disciplines, teaching, scientific research, talent training and scientific management so that the school can build itself into a research and open school at a higher level.
